The Coffee Rating Table – Explained

You may noticed that I am using a simple table to rate the Japanese coffees I am writing about. In this post I will briefly describe the principals on which this tables are created. First – the stars . This is the most subjective criteria. In general I will give 3 stars for average coffee, 4 for something well above average and 5 for a coffee I can not leave without. 2 is for something I will never try again and 1 star for something really discussing. Actually most of the can coffees I tried in Japan were usually in the 3 and 4 stars range. Second – the Energy content This is a more precise criteria. 1 battery for 10 to 17 kcal per 100 ml, 2 batteries for around 30 … Read entire article »

Espresso Classico Black – TullY’s Refreshing Morning Coffee

A great new black coffee from Tully’s. I am not a big fan of the black coffees but I can definitely make an exception for this one. Rate this coffee: I tasted it for a first time two days ago on my way to work and the refreshment was amazing. Strong and pure definitely a good new addition to TullY’s coffe brand. Low calories content 35 kcal for the whole 285 ml.  Also this is one of the few coffees with written caffeine concentration on its label – 180 mg per 285 ml or around 63 mg per 100 ml (well within the average range of the caffeine containing beverages). I am giving it four (out of five) stars in my personal rating but I wouldn’t be surprised if a real lover … Read entire article »

BOSS Gold Presso – The Concentrated Power from Suntory

Boss Gold Presso is strong and when I say strong I really mean it (do not forget that I am drinking 5 to 6 coffees per day, every day). You would like to drink it only when your batteries are really down – the energy surge will be almost instantaneous. Rate this coffee: Unfortunately I couldn’t find the exact caffeine content  of this Boss coffee but it must be at least double the usual. Despite the high caffeine concentration the taste of the coffee is also very good (well above average). The energy content is (surprisingly) also not written but as far as I can tell it must be between 17 and 35 kcal/100 ml (rather closer to 30 kcal/100 ml  – this is a guess of course). In conclusion – very good … Read entire article »

Roots Demitasse – The Stylish Coffee

Roots Demitasse – The Stylish Coffee

It is a relatively new addition to Roots collection. Rate this coffee: Apart from the very stylish can it has and very decent taste (a little bit too sweat though). Milky but not too much. The energy content is 40 kcal per 100 ml so it is definitely not very low calorie product (still well below most of the Mount Rainier coffee products). Wonda Zeromax – Another Great Wonda Coffee

Wonda Zeromax – Another Great Wonda Coffee

This is my first post and it is dedicated to one of the Wonda coffees – Wonda Zeromax. By far the Wonda coffees are ichiban (number one) for me. The new Wonda Zeromax makes no exception: Rate this coffee: Rich but soft texture, relatively low calories (36 kcal/ 100 ml). Definitely one of the good Asahi products.
