The candy’s guide to Gegege no Kitaro

Tired of boring descriptions of Manga characters? OK,  here comes something different – the Chottomtte’s candy guide to Gegege no Kitaro.

First – a group photo of our heroes:

Yes I agree. In the crowd it is somehow difficult to distinguish who is whom. So let’s start one by one.

First comes Kitaro (鬼太郎 – in Japanese):

You can’t mistake him. He has only one eye and covers the missing one with hair. He is several hundred years old and his main function is to keep apart the world of humans and yokai (Japanese name for demons). He has amazing arsenal of weaponry – shooting remotely controlled sandals, shooting (like arrows) hair, a special vest which can change form and help friends or deter enemies and even an electrocuting powers.

Then comes Neko Musume (猫娘 – The Cat Girl)

Actually she is a cute yokai girl but from time to time she transforms into a monstrous wild cat (as on the picture above). This usually happens when she is hungry (for fish) or very angry.

Third in our presentation is Nezumi Otoko (ねずみ男 – The Rat Man).

Well he doesn’t really have any special gifts (apart from his extra-large scissors teeth) and he is half-breed (half human/half ryokai). His allegiance to the rest of the company is also under question but nevertheless he is important companion in the adventures of Kitaro and we simply couldn’t skip him.

Next comes Medama-oyaji ( 目玉親父 – The Eyeball Father):

Yes, indeed – he is the father of Kitaro. He is also Ryokai and he had died long time ago to be reborn under the form of eyeball. He could be small but his spirit is strong and he likes to keep clean and tidy (you can see him taking a bath in a small bowl on the picture above). He also fancies sake a lot.

Well that’s all for now folks. In case you are interested – the candies were bought from Gegege no Kitaro and Yokai exhibition at Hyogo Prefectural museum and they really taste good.
